If you were to look at a picture of dental implant designs, you might be surprised to learn that they’re one of the least-invasive types of dental therapies available. The apparently rigid surface of the artificial “root” initially seems as if implants might require less than desirable process to install into the bone. Surprisingly, that’s not the case. Getting dental implants can actually be quite comfortable and straightforward!
A Little Numbing is All You’ll Need
Although a lot of Georgia dental implant patients prefer gentle sedation throughout their implant procedure, it’s strictly to help them feel at ease. The actual installation of a dental implant is typically such that it can be performed comfortably with just a bit of local anesthetic applied. If you remember correctly, local anesthetic is the numbing medication that lasts for a few hours (for fillings, crowns, and other types of treatment.) You’ll feel a bit of pressure, but that’s about it.
There’s Practically No Recovery Time
Even though implants take a bit of time to “integrate” with the surrounding bone, your bone tissues don’t contain any nerve endings. The only mild tenderness you might feel after implant placement is in your gums at the immediate placement area (where the tissues were gently retracted.) The great news is that within a few days, any minor irritation should be completely gone. A gentle warm saltwater rinse and over-the-counter pain reliever are usually the only things you may need.
