A quality denture will fit like your favorite pair of shoes. They’re comfortable, don’t rub you the wrong way, and you almost forget that they’re there. But without the right denture fit, the entire opposite can be true.
Here’s how to make sure your next set of dentures fits as best as possible.
Take it Out at Night
Don’t sleep in your denture. When you do, it places additional pressure on your gingival tissues and the supporting bone underneath. In turn, the excessive wear time can cause your bone at certain points to resorb or shrink away in that area. As that happens, it creates a different shape inside of your mouth that’s not the same as when your denture was created to fit you. It will start to feel looser or rock. Always take your denture out when you go to bed at night.
Consider Overdentures
Overdentures — or “implant stabilized” dentures — are a type of conventional denture that essentially snaps onto 2-4 supporting implants underneath the “plate”. The corresponding implants prevent your denture from rocking or moving about throughout the day. No denture adhesives or messy pastes are necessary!
