If you need to replace all of your teeth at once — or you’re considering upgrading your traditional dentures — there are two popular options to consider: dental implants and implant-secured overdentures (also known as “stabilized” or “implant supported” dentures).
Hybrid Implant “Dentures”
Traditional dental implants can be used for a variety of missing tooth needs. Perhaps you only have one or two teeth that need to be replaced, and that’s fine. But you can also use pairs or sets of implants to anchor permanent multi-tooth restorations, such as bridges or hybrid appliances. In the case of a hybrid treatment, anywhere from 4-6 implants will support the fixed, contoured “hybrid denture” that spans the width of your smile.
Implant-Supported Overdentures
And then there are implant-supported overdentures. These treatments are like the best of both worlds: convenient removable dentures but added stability underneath. While the appliances are still removable and look like a traditional denture, they “snap” onto supporting implants in your mouth. Anywhere from 2-4 implants are effective. Overdentures are ideal for people who may not qualify for a fixed hybrid treatment, or who want a more modest upgrade from their traditional “plate”.
