Conventional dentures are an efficient and affordable way to replace all of your teeth at once. And hybrid or “All-on-4” implants are a great combination of streamlined prosthetics when you don’t want a traditional denture.
But what if you don’t qualify for All-on-4/hybrid implants and still need extra stability for your removable dentures? Then it’s time to consider an overdenture or “stabilized” denture at Georgia Denture & Implant Specialists.
Overdentures Design
An overdenture looks and feels like a classic, traditional denture. But underneath there are a couple of “locators” that are hidden from plain view. Each of these locators can snap onto a dental implant.
With overdentures, the implants stabilize your removable prosthesis. There’s no rocking, slipping, or uncomfortable rubbing. You can completely avoid the use of messy pastes or adhesives. But at the same time, you get the added convenience of a traditional “plate” that’s easy to take out and clean.
Depending on how new your denture is, it might even be possible to retrofit the plate to dental implants later on.
Since implants are stabilizing your overdenture, you don’t need very many of them. Two is usually all that’s necessary. Occasionally we’ll use 1-2 more, if extra stability is needed.
Overdentures work great for people who prefer removable appliances. They also offer an interim solution for individuals that plan to get a fixed hybrid prosthesis or “All-on-4” later on in the future.
